Plaster sand delivery in Cape Town
Plaster sand is a fine, soft sand with few stones or clay lumps. Mixed with cement (and often lime) it gives a smooth, workable plaster that doesn't crack as it dries.
What it’s used for
- Internal and external wall plaster
- Thin floor screeds under tiles
- Pointing and patch repairs
How to order
Plaster sand is sold by the cubic metre (m³) and tipped loose on site. Ask for it to be kept separate from building sand, since mixing the two spoils the plaster finish.

Questions
- How much plaster sand do I need?
- As a rough guide, 1 m³ of plaster sand covers about 60 m² of wall at a 15mm coat. Rough walls and thicker coats use more.
- Can I use building sand for plaster?
- It's not recommended. Building sand is too coarse and gives a rough finish that's prone to cracking. Use plaster sand for plaster, and building sand for mortar and concrete.
